Racing Bucket List Destination #1

Who wouldn’t enjoy a FABULOUS trip to NEW ZEALAND?!?!?!  There are many adventures one could participate in while visiting New Zealand (including, but not limited to): RiverJet Thermal Safaris, Skydiving, Whitewater Rafting, Kayaking, Mountain Biking, Bungee Jumping, Rock Climbing, Museums, Park Tours, Hot Springs, Wine Tasting, Hiking, many water sport opportunities and of course…Diving or Snorkeling in The Great Barrier Reef!!

Ironman New Zealand

Not only would this trip be an amazing adventure, but incorporating Ironman New Zealand into the trip would be the icing on the cake!!  March is a perfect time of year to visit New Zealand!!  With autumn approaching, the average high temperatures are near 73 degrees Fahrenheit and average low temperatures are near 50 degrees Fahrenheit, providing the perfect racing temperatures and an the opportunity to race in a new country.  The whole trip would be an experience of a lifetime!!!

As an Ironman athlete, I love the floating swim start.  It is nice to be in the water and get somewhat acclimated to the temperature before you actually start swimming.  The swim start at Ironman New Zealand is a floating start and the swim takes place in a crystal clear lake!!  The bike course is two loops with some hills as well as an occasional headwind.  This can pose challenges of its own, taxing the legs before beginning the run.  This is Ironman, so it should be a challenge.  If it were easy, everyone would be doing it!!  The run leg is a two lap course around the lake with some undulations that can allow for a variety of paces.  Since the run is along the lake shore, there are also some spectacular views as you endure the last leg of the race.  Who wouldn’t want to participate in this world class event…Ironman New Zealand anyone?!?!?!?
