Remembering Boston…Through My Eyes

With the Boston Marathon running today, I decided to take a look back on my Boston Marathon race experience…

In October of 2008, I ran the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon with the Iron Hippie by my side.  We crossed the finish line in 3:39:46, qualifying me for the Boston Marathon by 1 minute & 13 seconds (at that time, I needed 3:40:59…this was before all of the new qualifying times and new registration process).

I decided I would wait to run the Boston Marathon in April of 2010.  I had already signed up to run a few more marathons at the start of 2009…Rock ‘N Roll Arizona Marathon in January, Green Bay Marathon in May and Grandma’s Marathon in June.  Holding off to run the Boston Marathon in 2010 would probably be the best option.

By the time the 2010 Boston Marathon rolled around, I had made the decision to run the race just to have fun.  I was going to carry a camera, take lots of pictures and not worry about trying to finish within a specific time frame.  I busted my tail to get to this race, and I was going to enjoy it!!

Here is a look at the Boston Marathon through my eyes on April 19, 2010…

  1. What a great experience you must have had. Any desire to do it again? Boston is definitely on my bucket list and I am running the Portland, OR Marathon this year in hopes to qualify. Did you take all those pictures while running? What a fun way to capture the moment.

    1. It was a blast!! I definitely want to run it again. I did carry a camera with me and took MANY photos while running…it was my reward for working so hard to get there 😉

  2. Thanks for sharing! That’s awesome you decided to do it for fun and took photos along the way!
I’ve qualified for Boston but never ran it. I’d like to one year, but there are a ton of other destination races on my list 🙂

    1. I completely understand that Abby!! That’s why I say, “I’ll run it again someday,” but who knows when…I have so many other destination races that I can’t wait to participate in 🙂

  3. Great story through pictures!!! Looks like an awesome day! I feel like if I ever went to Boston that is how I would want to run it. Just enjoy the day. But there are a lot of other marathons that I want to run that I don’t have to qualify to get into! 🙂
    Great week you had!!!

    1. Thanks Leslie!! I too have a lot of destination races that I am excited to do, so running Boston again is going to have a to be put on the back burner for a while 😉

  4. What fantastic pictures! You look like you’re having a blast! Boston is on my list… maybe when I’m done with all this IM stuff 😉
