12 weeks ’til #IMLou – listen

Last week my body reminded me that it is in control and I need to spend more time listening to it. Time to be honest…I have been neglecting my stretching lately. My body took note and decided it was time for a reminder. After last Sunday’s brick, my right hamstring was talking…it wasn’t injured, just talking, so I listened. I got in to see Dr. Feil twice this week to have him work on my leg. Monday he did some dry needle work on the hamstring. That felt SO much better, but the uncomfortable feeling moved up into my glute on Tuesday. On Thursday, he did more dry needling and added some electrolysis treatment and electric shock therapy to really try and loosen everything up. Coach Kelly reduced my running to pretty much nothing last week to reduce the hamstring strain and allow it to relax before Ironman Ohio 70.3 one week from today.

  1. This must have been the week for listening to our bodies. I, too, had some things kinda “pop” up again, but I got in for treatments right away like you did. Fingers crossed that our bodies cooperate with us!!

  2. There must be something going around! My body was displaying some unhappiness as well, so that is why I started up my daily yoga again-I’ve been feeling much better these last 4 days 🙂 I’m glad that you listened to your body and I hope you have an amazing race this weekend…I hope the weather cooperates!

    1. There must be Amy!! Glad you’ve gotten back to your mat…I REALLY need to do the same. The foam roller and I are getting reacquainted again. 😬 Thank you!!

  3. I get dry needling regularly to try to keep things at bay and one of my “spots” is hamstring and glute as well. It can be tough to keep everything happy, but I try to stay on top of things between stretching, foam rolling, massage, etc. With the training volume it can be very tough to get it all in!!! Hope your issue has settled down and you feel great at your 70.3!!!
