2023 week 12: race week

Last week was race week, but of a very different kind for me. I am 46 years old and participated in my first EVER swim meet on Saturday! Wow! It was fun, challenging, and something I am excited to do again!

“Explore your limits and get to know yourself. You’ll never feel more real than after the hardest workout, the longest run, the toughest week, or the best race of your life. Constantly make your own standards tougher”

~Luke Watson

Swim highlights: 7650 yards (+ warm up and cool down yards not accounted for at swim meet)

The swim meet was definitely my swim highlight for the week. I swam the 200 yard free, 500 yard free, 50 backstroke (as part of the 200 medley relay), 100 IM, and 1650 yard (1 mile) free.

Saturday was my first EVER swim meet. I tried something new, explored my limits, overcame challenges, and had fun in the process. I’m so grateful for the community of people I’ve met through masters swimming, the automatic personal bests I achieved in my first swim meet, and the strength my body + mind endure daily to carry me on these exciting adventures. ⚡️💙

Bike highlights: 18.6 miles

Tuesday was my only ride of the week. I was told to save my legs for kicking on Saturday’s swim meet, but I don’t kick much even with rested legs. 😜

Putting in some work.

Run fun: 2.07 miles

I ran short off the bike on Tuesday as my only run for the week…again conserving my legs for the swim meet. I didn’t get any pics of my solo run last week.

15 minutes of core strength daily
30 minutes of full body strength

Weekly Totals: 5 hours & 40 minutes

Attitude of Gratitude:

Lots of puppy snuggles are the best way to rest up and prep for racing. 🐶🥰
So grateful for our passionate, fearless leader in her element…cheering us on and coaching us from the pool deck. 🥰
Resting up and recovering after a LONG day on Saturday. 🐶🥰

What are you highlights from week 12 of 2023?
